01

Challenge

A small product team usually lives in a zoo of tools: a task tracker, a separate time-tracking service, a spreadsheet for hour reports and a chat that glues it all together. Heavy enterprise trackers are overkill and slow; lightweight boards can't handle sprints or time. Every tool comes with its own subscription, its own accounts, its own export.

We needed a working tool for our own projects and, at the same time, a showcase product that shows clients, live, how we build cross-platform products. We held ourselves to a stricter bar than any client would: one codebase for three platforms, production-grade security and real-time, with no "it's just an internal tool" shortcuts.

Solution

A full workspace, not a to-do list

Tasks
Everything about a task in one panel
  • Priority, status, assignee and co-assignees, labels
  • Due date with reminders, sprint, attachments
  • Subtasks, a checklist with progress, comments
Views
One project, six views
  • Board, list, calendar, sprints, archive, activity
  • Instant switching, and your filters stay put
  • Sprints with a goal, dates and a backlog
Time
Built-in time tracking
  • Start and end of the day, plus breaks, in one tap
  • Your whole month at a glance, hours by day
  • A team report for the manager

One TypeScript stack from top to bottom

A single Expo / React Native codebase builds for iOS, Android and web, so features ship on every platform at once and the team stays compact. On top sits a typed NestJS API with a Prisma schema: types run end to end, from a button in the UI to a column in PostgreSQL. Collaboration runs on authenticated WebSocket rooms, so boards, tasks and comments sync for every member in real time.

Tasks and board
Kanban board: custom columns, WIP limits, drag & drop and quick task creation
Everything about a task in one panel: priority, assignees, labels, due date, sprint, subtasks, checklist and comments
Grouped list: the same tasks from another angle, with filters by priority, assignee and label
Planning
Due date calendar: every deadline on a monthly grid, colored by priority
Sprints: goal and dates with the backlog alongside; tasks are pulled into the sprint and tracked all the way to "done"
Time tracking
Your month: start and end of the day, breaks, hour totals, no second tool needed
Manager's report: the whole team's hours by day in one table
Personal dashboard
Personal home page: open tasks, overdue tasks, recent activity and all your workspaces

In-depth breakdown

Engineering notes: built correctly and securely

Object-level authorization
  • Every endpoint checks access in the service layer based on workspace and project membership
  • RBAC on CASL: owner / admin / member
  • Access to other people's data is ruled out by the architecture, not hidden "on the frontend"
Transactional integrity
  • Moving and reordering cards happens inside database transactions
  • Positions don't drift, even with simultaneous edits
A secure API
  • Rate limiting on authentication, security headers by default
  • Refresh and API tokens are stored hashed
  • Every request is validated; attachments are served through signed links
Ready for AI agents
  • A secure agent API lets automations plan and manage tasks
  • The same RBAC applies: an agent sees exactly what it's allowed to see

Screenshots were taken from a live build with demo data: the "Aurora Studio" workspace and the "Skyline Mobile App" project.
